A new Commercial Endless Pool installation is open in Staffordshire. This elite model Endless Pool helps performance swimmers and triathletes to train and improve. This commerical Endless Pool installation is the focus of a high performance training Centre, Sportstest, in Cannock, Staffordshire. The Centre is run by sports physiologist, Dr Garry Palmer. It provides triathletes, swimmers and endurance athletes with top end training and coaching facilities.
The Elite Endless Pool offers the widest, smoothest swim current on the market. It has a 7.5hp engine and two powerful propellers. The Elite model is popular with performance swimmers improving stroke efficiency at race pace.
“Having tried an Elite model previously, there is no question, it is the best on the market for performance swimming and training.” explains Dr Palmer. “We use a range of cameras, mirrors and headsets in the pool, because it gives real-time feedback between coach and swimmer. This precision training can’t be achieved in a full-sized pool, where shouting is the main form of communication.” explains Dr Palmer. “Some triathletes come to us as self-taught swimmers. Within three sessions in the pool, we can improve their technique and swim times by 20-30 seconds over 100m.”
Dr Palmer is keen to build on the success of Sportstest by using the Elite Endless Pool. “We plan to become one of the few Centres in the world to offer pool-based fitness testing because of performance metrics we can collect. We can use heart rate and oxygen uptake over set distances in the pool and use them in training.”
